There is no such thing as bad financial weather, only inappropriate clothing.

Fiennes was right, There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.  It's amazing how the coldest weather doesn't seem a bother when we have warm boots, thick water-proof gloves, a warm hat and a few layers.

A tour guide in Cancun once told my wife and I how he kept cool in the hot Mexican summers: light-colored, long sleeve shirts and long pants.

This concept is good for money too. There is no such thing as bad financial weather, only inappropriate financial clothing.

The financial clothing makes all the difference. In financial storms such as a recession or a depression investors buy or build bargain priced businesses, stocks, and real-estate. In financial hot weather wise money stewards lay money and education in store as a hedge against future inclement weather.

Bemoaning financial weather conditions blocks us from dressing in appropriate clothing.  What can you do today to make sure you're properly clothed for any financial weather?

Thirteen ways to earn interest

Most people think interest is what you pay on a  loan, and for most Americans that's true.  But interest has more than one meaning.  It can mean to receive compensation for an investment you have (think loan or rental property).  It can also mean a passion, hobby or pursuit.   What if we could combine the income type of interest with the passion side of interest?  Then maybe you could collect interest and stop paying it to the bank.

What's your passion? Are you a saver? An entrepreneur?  What hobby can you get paid to do?

  Here are a few ways to earn interest:

1. Bonds
2. Money-market account
3. Savings account
4. Rental property
5. Vending machines
6. Mineral rights (oil, natural gas, etc.)
7. Storage units
8. Cell phone tower
9. Selling electricity back to the power company
10. Bee-keeping
11. Blogging
12. Publishing a book or e-book
13. Monetizing a YouTube video

Growing up, my mom always had plenty of advice to give. One of her favorites was to use the K.I.S.S method--K.I.S.S.  Keep It Simple Sweetie.

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not one bit simpler is how Einstein put it.

Keeping it simple, really is as simple as it sounds.  Don't try to over think it.

SIMPLE= Easy to understand, easy to use budget

NOT SIMPLE=Only one spouse uses the budget.

SIMPLE= Use Google to comparison shop. 

NOT SIMPLE= Going to the store and overpaying for an item.

SIMPLE= Only using one DEBIT card and recording the purchases.

NOT SIMPLE= Using multiple credit cards, always wondering if the purchase will go thorough.
