I'm sure you read the book or watched the movie, but do you remember the word slantways? It's how Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp) described the direction of the elevator that Charlie, his grandpa and Willy we're about to travel in.
It's also the best way to describe the solutions that we have in marriage. We don't need to just go up or down; we discover many different approaches if we take a non-linear approach. Over the obstacle? Around it? Over it? Retreat? Repeat?
Furthermore the way Charlie is in the movie and in the books is a great template for how we should be in marriage: Kind, humble, grateful, others-focused.
