Last Saturday my friend, Jake, texted me. He was in town from Hawaii and wanted to work out with me. I was a little apprehensive as Jake is a very big body-builder and I'm not. I lift, but I also play basketball and train for Triathlons.
Jake is not quite as big as Jay Cutler in this picture but he has arms larger than thighs.
We worked-out and talked for over two hours. We did about 6 perfect lunges (not sets, just 6). We completed 10 perfect, slow push-ups. Then we completed 10 or so perfect, slow ab crunches. Next we perfectly curled 60 pound resistance bands a few, slow times. And we did about 20 perfect, slow dips. My arms were shaking as my thighs and abs ached. At the end he actually apologized for taking it easy!!!
Easy?
Well it was easy for him because he had practiced slow, concentrated, perfect-form lifts for years.
I had merely lifted weights with too much speed and very poor form for several years.
Jake reminded me that life is about quality not speed and quantity.
Yes, slow down. And concentrate on excellent technique while you do what matters most.
