Isaac Watts composed one new hymn every week for years-750 hymns in total.
It took him many hours and days of consistent hymn writing to create masterpieces such as Joy To The World.
Most days he simply wrote notes, not masterpieces.
As I looked back on my old journals from the last 30 years, I realized most days were just average. Rarely did I have a remarkable day.
I learned that masterpieces are several average days strung together.
But there is a caveat. If each average day is a noble attempt at betterment, then many average days will become a masterpiece.
Masterpieces are made by trying to make average days a little better. A little more kindness. A little more listening. A little more learning. A little more self-lessness, othermindedness.
Isaac Watts learned that it takes MANY average notes to make a great hymn.
