Last Saturday I took the opportunity to help a friend lay sod in his front yard. I love discussing business, money, family and faith with him. He is very smart, extremely frugal, and an excellent husband and father.
He loves quality products at a discount (or free). He doesn't like cheap, shoddy products. He likes frugal: high quality, low price. He recently bought two refurbished Macs and sold one for his original price. Thus he essentially got a free Mac. He also found a way to get the new iPhone 6 for $50.
As I helped my friend, Jordan, lay sod he told me about a very effective way to buy.
He consults with his wife to determine ideal specifications and pricing for a given product. Then he creates a spreadsheet with possible purchases on the far left column and product specifications on the top row. They wait while searching multiple vendors (some of his favorites are eBay, Amazon and KSL).
Finally they buy when all of their specifications are met AND their pre-determined price converge.
He emphasized, "We aren't desperate so why act desperate?"
Recently they used the graph to buy a very sturdy bunk-bed for $25! And they used it to buy a used Nissan with very low miles.
