My parents are frugal! They purchased a $100 (extremely used) car when I was a teenager.
Even in the 1980's this was an amazing deal although I was very embarrassed to be seen in the long, Ford LTD.
It certainly wasn't a Porche, but it ran very well during the two years we kept it in the family.
It allowed my Dad, with freed up cash, to invest in low-income housing. He bought 26 rentals throughout several neighborhoods.
Additionally that car inspired me to be frugal, looking for good deals in every facet of my life.
Although buying a used car for $100 may seem far fetched, there are many areas where buying used is doable. Used clothing, books, movies, furniture, bedding, and technology are easily available at 70-90% off.
