A few years ago I was stunned to hear a colleague mention he was about to fly over 2,000 miles to buy a car.
Why?
He found a deal so good that he could save money flying to Rochester, New York and then driving his new purchase to His home in Utah.
He saved thousands on his slightly used BMW by leveraging geographical arbitrage.
Buy low in one area to later sell higher in another locale.
My wife and I tried the same experiment with our mini-van. My wife flew 300 miles to drive our mini-van home.
The experiment saved us $2,000 off the sticker price.
'Trips to Rochester' abound but we must look for them.
