What people do to be frugal is less important than how they become frugal.
Home-made detergent, no detergent or store-bought detergent matters less than the process used to decide.
Frugal, self-reliant people know how to jointly decide.
Frugal people are not unilateral dictators; they utilize effective decision making processes.
Decision making processes include dictatorial lecture, co-yelling, evaluative listening and mutual respect-based idea crafting.
Through idea-crafting and listening my wife and I discovered a good process for laundry.
We had two challenges: One of our children developed a rash from our laundry detergent and we had conflicting laundering styles.
Through talking and listening we jointly
chose liquid, hypoallergenic detergent with hypoallergenic dryer sheets.
Additionally we chose to complete all laundry on Saturdays.
The result?
Our process (listening and talking, showing respect) yielded an excellent process (how we do laundry)for us.
Our son's rash is gone and our laundry is done each Saturday with ease.
What process will you choose to find effective processes?
