A few years ago my wife and I began taking a year of mini-vacations to visit 12 LDS Temples in Utah.We wanted to get closer to God and strengthen our marriage.
Two of our best friends went with us, which only made our memories better.
During that year I told another friend about our mini-vacations.
He and his wife subsequently visited several Temples in California and Nevada on their anniversary.
Recently they returned from another Temple trip. This time they put 5,000 miles on a rental car as they visited Temples in Oregon, Washington state, and Idaho.
This couple of modest means visited over 33 Temples in the last three years.
How did they do it?
- They planned in advance
- They valued their relationship enough to invest in it (it's cheaper than divorce)
- They were modest in their expenditures (the husband drives a beat up old Ford Fiesta)
Our Temple trips helped lay the groundwork for furture trips. We went on to take a "5,000 mile trip" -- a Disney Cruise and a Hawaiin trip. Both required planning, investing in our family and much modesty in our other expenditures.
What is your 5,000 mile memory? Are you prepared to get modest in your expenditures and plan with intensity?
