It's rare to see a Lamborghini in Utah but my wife and I saw a gorgeous Lamborghini a few days ago.
We gawked at the cool looking car and noticed the license plate read "DREAMBIG"
As the Lamborghini made a left hand turn we noticed what appeared to be a 1966 Dodge Dart with hefty portions of putty and multiple colors. A few seconds later both cars stopped for traffic and began to loudly rev their engines. The contrast couldn't have been greater. A $350,000 perfect Lambo and a fixer-upper Dodge Dart juxtaposed for all to see.
My wife and I discussed the situation at length. Obviously both drivers have dreams. Their dream cars were unique to them. Was one a bigger dreamer than the other? No, not necessarily.
Each driver chose a personal dream to pursue.
What is your personal dream(s)? Not what society or parents say is a good dream, but your unique dream?
Having personalized dreams often eliminates poor financial decisions. For instance the driver of the Dodge Dart will gladly skip a few pricey vacations in oder to invest more money into his dream car. Or if he is tempted to buy pricey lunches he may opt for home lunches so he can replace the putty on his car. He might even decide to skip tv, or give up expensive habits because his dream causes him to want to invest all that he has.
Being frugal is not about denial for denial's sake (masochism).
Being frugal is gladly saying no to trinkets and time-killers to reach your amazing dreams.
Frugality is sacrifice for a higher purpose (your purpose).
It's realigning your spending so it goes to building up your vision and dreams.
Dream big. No, dream your dream big.
