Some athletes have foregone education and have lavishly spent their entire fortunes.
Estimates are 85% of pro athletes have no financial plan to handle their millions of dollars.
But Yao Ming defied those odds. (So did Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson)
Yao Ming was an eight time All-star for the Houston Rockets.
The 7'6 310 lb giant shot 83.3% from the free throw line.
In his 5th NBA season he played about 33.8 minutes per game yet
averaged 25 points and 9.7 rebounds.
He retired in 2011, but not before he established a backup plan for his annual income of 51 million dollars- he bought the Shanghai Sharks.
Additionally Yao began furthering his education by attending Economics and management classes.
Despite being a national superstar in China and the US Yao Ming established a backup plan.
If a a superstar making millions of dollars a year sees the need to invest and seek additional education, shouldn't we?
Wether we need a back-up plan or just self-improvement, the time to do it is now.
